Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,249 - £35,938 p.a.
The Sub-department of Particle Physics at the University of Oxford is seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral research assistant to work on the SNO+ experiment.

The SNO+ liquid scintillation instrument will probe a diverse range of physics, including neutrinoless double beta decay (0nbb), low energy solar neutrinos, geo-neutrinos, reactor-neutrinos and neutrinos from supernovae. The Oxford group is particularly involved in the development of software for event reconstruction and data analysis, a calibration system to study detector optical properties, and techniques aimed at substantial improvements to 0nbb sensitivity. The successful candidate will have or be about to receive a PhD in physics and would be largely based in Oxford, but spending several months per year at the experiment in Sudbury, Canada to assist in detector commissioning and on-site development tasks. They would also be expected to help supervise graduate students, lead various simulation/analysis efforts and take responsibility for maintenance of the Oxford laser calibration system for in situ measurements of optical scattering. Strong programming skills as well as a familiarity with appropriate hardware would therefore be advantageous.

Only applications received promptly by 12:00 noon UK time on 11 January 2013 can be considered.

Please read the person specification and job description before preparing your application. You will be required to upload a curriculum vita, a description of research experience and interests and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition you should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to Sue Geddes (details below) by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not reference letters.
