The PRISMA Cluster of Excellence (Research Area C: Structure of Matter) at
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz invited applicants for
Postdoc fellow in Experimental Nuclear and Hadron Physics
Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral or research scientist position (TV-L EG 13) in
the field of experimental nuclear and hadron physics at the Institute of Nuclear
Physics. The position is part of the new Cluster of Excellence PRISMA “Precision
Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter“, which focuses on key
questions concerning the fundamental constituents of matter and their implications
for the physics of the Universe.
PRISMA consists of experimental and theoretical research groups working together
in the areas of astro-particle, high energy and hadron physics, nuclear chemistry, as
well as precision physics with ultra-cold neutrons and ion traps. Additional
information on PRISMA and in particular, its Research Area C, is available on the
web-site www.prisma.uni-mainz.de/area_C.php.

The successful candidate should have experience in the field of particle detectors or
digital electronics and will play a leading role in the development and design task
within the experimental program at the MESA accelerator: Its intense, polarized low
energy electron beam will be the basis for several precision tests of fundamental
interactions, nuclear physics and astrophysical reaction measurements and
precision nucleon structure. Examples for such experiments include precision
measurements of the electroweak mixing angle at low energies, the search for
hypothetical particles of the dark sector, and the measurement of neutron skin in
medium-mass nuclei.
A PhD. or equivalent degree is required, preferably in nuclear physics or related
fields. The appointment is initially for a period of one year with possible extension
and is available immediately.
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz aims at increasing the percentage of women
in academic positions and strongly encourages women scientists to apply. The
University is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications
from persons with disabilities.

Qualified candidates are requested to submit (as a single pdf file), preferably by
email, a CV and a statement of research interests and relevant experience, and
arrange for at least two letters of reference.

Applications will be considered immediately and should be submitted no later than
April 15, 2013.
