Two two-years postdoc positions, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), are opened in the LHCb Cagliari group in Italy. The contract should start between March 1st and June 1st 2017.

There are currently 6 permanent members, 3 post-docs and 2 PhD students in the LHCb Cagliari group.
The group was involved in the design, construction and commissioning of the Muon System, working on both electronics and detectors, and is currently taking part in the Muon System upgrade activities, in particular in the design of the new readout electronics and on the study of the system performance in high luminosity conditions. The group is also involved in data analysis, in particular in the study of rare decays of B and D mesons, measurements of quarkonia properties using leptonic decays, B+c meson studies and measurements of decays of charmed hadrons.
The post-docs will be requested to work in the area of Heavy Ion at LHCb for which the ERC project has been funded. Activities will involve reconstruction software, development of new tracking algorithms, simulation and analysis of heavy ion data. In both cases previous experience in these areas would be appreciated although not mandatory.
The data analysis activities will include quarkonium and open charm studies in the three LHC running configurations, proton-proton, proton-lead and lead-lead collisions as well as beam gas interactions with the “SMOG” system, with particular attention to lead-lead collisions data.
The postdocs will be based in Cagliari but will regularly go to CERN in particular to participate in data-taking and monitoring of the detector. For more information please contact Giulia Manca (giulia.manca@cern.ch) and Alessandro Cardini(Alessandro.Cardini@cern.ch).
