  • Annual closure of the CERN site: The Laboratory will be closed from Saturday, 19 December 2020 to Sunday 3 January 2021. The first working day in the New Year will be Monday, 4 January 2021. Next ALICE Newsletter release date: 8 January 2021.

  • CERN announces new open data policy in support of open science: The four main LHC collaborations (ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb) have unanimously endorsed a new open data policy for scientific experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which was presented to the CERN Council today. Details are in the links:  Policy document and  Announcement.

PAPERS IN THE COLLABORATION REVIEW

NEWS FROM POINT 2

  • Surface commissioning, commissioning at P2 and lab. and remote commissioning are progressing well for all central and subsystems. The main highlights of this week:  Please visit TB meeting (https://indico.cern.ch/event/849408/).
  • Cavern: all CR1-UX optical fibers are installed and tested.
  • ITS:  IB Boundary behaviour studies completed, OB  stability tests and cosmic data taking completed. Surface commissioning was so successful.
  • TPC:  C-side readout commissioning started. First noise data taken. A-side connection on-going.
  • MCH: Station 5 installation ongoing. VS tests with CRU-UL ongoing.
  • MFT:  Installation and tests of  PP2, Power cables, Readout infrastructure and related services, and Disk water cooling  ongoing
  • FIT-C:  Routing of cables and connecting to patch-panels  completed. Electronics PRR was passed for full production.
  • TRD: Data readout verified up to EPN in VS tests. VS tests with FLP compressor performed.
  • EMC and PHOS: FLP checkpoints successful with 6 DDL links and 1 FLP

OUTREACH NEWS

  • On-site public visits are cancelled at least until the end of March 2021. However, it is now possible to visit virtually the ALICE
    experimental area via a live, interactive channel connecting Point 2 to any remote Zoom-enabled virtual or physical site where physicists and engineers show and explain what goes on in ALICE.
