- Machine learning in high-energy physics a conversation over ice cream (5 October 2021, 16:00): The event is organized jointly by the early-career representatives of ALICE, ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb. It is open to all juniors and is designed to help junior scientists become aware and involved in topics beyond their current work. The program will consist of 4 talks on machine learning topics focusing on applications in high energy physics.
- Second round of an LHC-wide mentoring program: The goal of this program is to connect young scientists who are interested in a career in research with researchers who are established in the field. Each mentee-mentor relationship will have its own set of specific goals, as proposed by the mentee and agreed upon with the mentor. The application forms are in the links for Mentees and Mentors. The applications are open now until 22 October 2021.
NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
- A new FAQ category has been included in the ALICE Secretariat webpage which gives information on many of the Administrative processes.
- Flu Vaccination at ALICE Point-2 on 12 October 2021 between 1:30 PM and 4:20 PM. Register at cern.ch/plamed.
- CERN is currently COVID-19 LEVEL 2 – Yellow. (https://hse.cern/covid-19-information)
- Proximeter use on-site is mandatory, even in level 2 – Yellow. It helps with contact tracing, and thereby provides a valuable tool for preventing the spread of the virus on-site.
- Update on the COVID19 Guidelines: https://hse.cern/covid-19-information
- Self-testing at CERN: is for those coming on-site and exhibiting no symptoms. If you have symptoms, even mild ones, do not come on site, contact the COVID Helpline at +41 22 766 7777 to arrange for an RT-PCR test at the Proxilis medical laboratory in Meyrin. You can easily sign-up for a self-test using the PLAMED tool.
- Recent health measures: A reminder of the COVID-19 measures in place
- Measures in France: Full details of the measures in France may be found here. A summary of what you need to know in France is provided here. As of 1 October, all children aged between 12 and 17 will be required to show the “pass sanitaire”.
- Measures in Switzerland: The full details of the recent measures for Switzerland can be found here.
- Travel:
- France updated its classification of countries as green, orange or red on 23 September. The current classification, along with details of conditions for international travel, is available at the page here.
- As of 20 September, in light of the epidemiological situation, the Federal Council has implemented new measures with regards to conditions of entry into Switzerland. The full press release can be found here.
