This is an announcement for the second workshop on the Physics at A Fixed Target ExpeRiment (AFTER) using the LHC beams to be held at the Ecole of Physics of Les Houches (near Chamonix) on 12-17 January 2014. The agenda is still to be finalized, and will be progressively be updated at

This is the second exploratory workshop aiming at studying in detail the opportunity and feasibility of a fixed-target experiment using the LHC beams extracted by a bent crystal. The previous workshop in this topic was in February 2013

During this workshop, a special emphasis will be put on studies related to Strong Interactions. Complementarity with existing experiments at the LHC, at SPS, at CEBAF, at Fermilab and RHIC will also be the cornerstone of the discussions.
The workshop will consist of review and topical talks along with ample time for discussion. The subjects which will be addressed are :
nucleon and nucleus pdf extraction in hadronic processes
spin physics
Quark-Gluon Plasma physics
nuclear matter studies in proton-nucleus collisions
diffractive physics and ultra-peripheral collisions
heavy-quark dynamics and spectroscopy at high |xF|
beam extraction and secondary beams
studies of the crystal-extraction influence on the machine and detector performance
target polarization
modern detector technologies
event generator and detector simulation
The contribution of everyone is therefore welcome. Abstract submission is open.

Please note that the registration is now open. The workshop fees (400€ if paid before Dec. 15, 450€ otherwise) include the registration to the workshop and full-board accommodation in single room on site from Sunday (dinner) until Friday (lunch).

All the talks will be plenary.
The Ecole de Physique des Houches offers a very well-equipped environment to work, with an auditorium, seminar rooms, a library, computer, printers, etc..
Proceedings
We do not plan for proceedings per se. However, the workshop results will most probably be used as a basis for a Letter of Intent for the project.
Social activities
All the meals will be taken at the centre. Wednesday afternoon will be reserved for ski or an excursion. There will be an optional session on Friday afternoon. If you prefer not to attend it, you could also go and ski.
