The Institute for Computer Science, Department of Computer Science and Mathematics of the Goethe University Frankfurt is currently offering the position of a Research Associate(paygrade EG 13) full-time

initially limited until December 31, 2025.

We are looking for a physicist or computer scientist with a doctorate and excellent knowledge and experience in the field of experimental particle and heavy ion physics.

The area of responsibility of this position is centered around the high-rate data processing of large-scale experiments in particle physics. Here we focus on the CBM experiment at the FAIR accelerator, which is currently under construction, and the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, which is in operation.

Both experiments use a new, continuous selection method in which event selection occurs after a complete online reconstruction. With this scheme, the data, arriving at a rate of terabytes per second, must be routed to a specific node available for processing for each time slice. It is clear that this scenario does not work because the receiving node overflows its input interface. At the same time, both experiments generate on the order of 100 petabytes of new data per year. The analysis is mainly done with GPUs in very large server farms.

The ability to work in a team in an international environment and the willingness to take on management and leadership tasks are essential. The successful candidate will be required to routinely complete on-call and shift work. Being able to speak and write German and English is therefore an absolute must.

Please address inquiries and applications with the usual documents to: Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies, Prof. Dr. Volker Lindenstruth, Ruth-Moufang-Strasse 1, 60438 Frankfurt am Main, or by e-mail to: voli@compeng.de
