The Nuclear and Particle Physics Group at the University of Trieste – INFN Trieste (Italy) invites applications for two postdoctoral research positions to work on technology development and characterization of semiconductor particle detectors. The group is engaged in the development of particle detectors based on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) and other semiconductor sensor technologies. The postdoctoral research will focus on the R&D for flexible ultra-thin wafer-size MAPS sensors, developed primarily for the ALICE Experiment ITS3 upgrade at LHC, and considered for the future particle trackers of the ePIC Experiment at EIC and the ALICE 3 Experiment at LHC, and other applications.

Each contract has two-year duration with the possibility to be extended according to fund availability. The net salary ranges between 1800 and 2000 Euro/month according to experience.

The positions are expected to be filled by April 2024.

Required skills:

  •      Expertise in particle detectors R&D and operations and/or additive manufacturing technology applied to detectors.

The following skills, although not strictly required, will be positively valued:

  • Experience with MAPS detector characterization with radioactive sources and particle beams

  •  Experience with MAPS sensor design and simulation

  •  Experience with Aerosol Jet Printing and/or Ink Jet Printing techniques applied to electronics.
