Postdoctoral Position on the CMS tracker upgrade for HL-LHC

The experimental high energy physics group of the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) invites applications for one position at the post-doctoral level to join its efforts in the upgrade of the silicon tracker of the CMS experiment for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC).

UCLouvain will be one of the three integration centres for the CMS tracker endcaps "dees", and will also integrate one of the two endcaps. The selected candidate will lead these activities and coordinate the integration and test work. The three years mandate allows covering the end of the preparation phase (till summer 2024) and the full duration of the dee and double disks' integration phase. The position comes therefore with an excellent visibility and opportunities to report progress at international conferences.

Besides the detector activities, a contribution to data analysis is also possible. UCLouvain is currently active in CMS physics data analysis and related physics object software development within the Higgs, top quark, jetmet and tracking physics groups. UCLouvain hosts one of the Tier-2 centres of the LHC computing GRID that allows CMS data to be processed and analysed. Physics studies are pursued in close collaboration with theoreticians within the Centre for Cosmology, Particle Physics and Phenomenology (CP3, http://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/) of UCLouvain.

The selected candidate will be based in Belgium, with frequent visits to CERN as needed for the project. We are aiming at a start of contract as soon as possible and no later than October 1st, 2024.

Applicants must have (or expect to receive soon) a Ph.D. in particle physics. The position is open to candidates of any nationality, but the candidate should be in the condition of international mobility (the researcher should not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (job, studies...) in Belgium for more than 24 months during the 3 years directly preceding the beginning of the present postdoctoral fellowship). The appointments are for three years. The salary is competitive and includes all social security benefits (information is available on request). Contributions to teaching are possible, but are not required. Interested persons are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as continuous application screening will take place. Applications, including cover letter, curriculum vitae, and at least three letters of recommendation, should be submitted online.
