Postdoctoral Positions at the Institute Of Particle Physics (IOPP)

Central China Normal University (CCNU), Wuhan, China

The ALICE group of the Central China Normal University (CCNU) opens several Postdoctoral positions on experimental particle and heavy ion physics with ALICE at the LHC, starting on Sept. 1 or not later than Nov. 1, 2014. These positions are initially for two years and are renewable for up to four years. We provide competitive salary (120k-140kRMB/year, depending on work experience and research performance) and travel support for conferences. The deadline for application is on June 25, 2014.

The ALICE-CCNU group has played significant roles in the research and development on the ALICE photon spectrometer (PHOS), ALICE-DCal/EMCal and right now is joining the ALICE-ITS upgrade effort. Our group has accumulated expertise in data analysis on physics related to photon, jet, heavy flavor and collective flow studies in ALICE.

Post-doctoral candidates are expected to contribute to the analysis of ALICE p-p, p-Pb, and Pb-Pb data focusing on one of the following topics:

  • Multiple Parton Interaction (MPI) studies in different final states.
  • Photon, jet, heavy flavor as probes of dense matter.

Candidates willing to dedicate at least a fraction to their time to the ALICE ITS upgrade program are particularly encouraged to apply. The candidates must have:

  • Recent Ph.D. degree in nuclear physics or particle physics.
  • Fluent English.
  • Good knowledge of C++ programming.
  • Background in high-energy heavy ion or particle physics experiments with at least one publication in a peer reviewed journal.

CCNU hosts the Key Laboratory of Quark and Lepton Physics of the Ministry of Education of China, Institute of Particle Physics (IOPP) and the Center of Nuclear Matter Science, which carries out theoretical and experimental research in high-energy nuclear physics and particle physics since 1980. For a complete list of faculty members and other information about IOPP, please consult http://ioppweb.ccnu.edu.cn.

Interested applicants are requested to submit an application (including cover letter, CV, list of publications and research plan) and arrange at least three recommendation letters sent to:

–     Prof. Paolo Bartalini, IOPP/CCNU at:  paolo.bartalini@cern.ch

(For candidates interested in MPI studies as well as for the ones interested in the ITS upgrade project).

(For candidates interested in Photon, jet and heavy flavors as probes of dense matter).
