The Division of Physics, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, has an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor position under the “Program for Promoting the Enhancement of Research Universities”. Applications from interested individuals are encouraged.

Tenure-track assistant professor
2. Field of research and job description
Nuclear physics, experiment.
Participate in one of the experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider or at
BNL Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, and play leading roles in physics analyses
on Quark Gluon Plasma, operations and upgrades of the detectors for future
programs. Spend most of the time (at least two years) at an overseas institute
(CERN, BNL or another university), and conduct research there in close
collaboration with the mentors at the overseas institute and the University of
Tsukuba.
3. Other duties:
In addition to research, the successful candidate will be involved in education
both at the graduate and undergraduate levels (Department of Physics, Graduate
School of Pure and Applied Sciences, and College of Physics, School of Science
and Engineering), for example guiding the graduate students resident at or
visiting the overseas institute and the undergraduate students at the lab.
4. Starting date:
As soon as possible after the decision is made.
5. Terms of Appointment:
Until March 31, 2018.
Evaluated in the final year of the term, and if satisfactory, eligible to become a
tenured assistant professor as of April 1, 2018. Publications of internationally
co-authored papers in top-profile international journals will be one of the
criteria for tenure.
6. Conditions of employment/salaries:
The salary will be paid in an annual salary system (fixed term). (Financial

7. Qualification:
* Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics or related field

* Reprints or copies of five most important papers (at least four must be
published within the past five years)
* List of grants acquired
* Summary of research accomplishments
* Statements on research and education
* Name of a proposed mentor at an overseas institute, and a status of
arrangements with the mentor
* Two letters of recommendation or reference
