Job reference 009385
Grade 7 (£33,518 - £38,833 pa)

As one of the UK's leading centres for Physics research, we are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a major STFC-funded Silicon Tracking Detector project in the University of Liverpool Semiconductor Detector Centre and STFC Daresbury Laboratory Engineering Technology Centre: the upgrade of the ALICE Inner Tracking System at the LHC (CERN).
The ALICE ITS upgrade is a new tracking and vertexing detector comprising seven layers of CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS). The production phase for this project is on-going and will complete in 2019. You will provide continual technical expertise to underpin the UK contribution to this large project, undertaking the Quality Assurance (e.g. metrology, functional tests, etc.) of the Outer Barrel staves constructed in Daresbury with modules assembled in Liverpool. The role will then evolve towards the commissioning of the new detector and preparations for first data taking.
You will have a PhD (or be about to submit your thesis) in nuclear or particle physics or in a discipline relevant to detector research with experience in high-energy physics or nuclear physics. You will also have experience in testing or commissioning of detection systems used in high-energy physics experiments. An interest in developing your Physics programme by performing data analyses or Physics performance studies is also welcome. You will work closely with collaborators from UK and overseas institutions and need to be willing to travel. The post is available for 2 years.
closing date to apply: 3 July 2018
