The Experimental High Energy Nuclear Physics group, Division of Physics, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, invites applications for one postdoctoral research associate position to start in July/August in 2021.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in high energy particle or nuclear physics or engineering and have a strong background in the detector R&D and data analysis.

The ALICE group in University of Tsukuba (team leader: Professor Tatsuya Chujo)

is taking a major role in ALICE Forward Calorimeter (FoCal) upgrade project.FoCal uses a novel silicon technology to detect direct photons, hadrons and jets at very forward rapidity at LHC, to unravel a high density gluon matter at very small x-region, Color Glass Condensate (CGC), and initial condition and origin of Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) formation.

The successful candidate will conduct research on FoCal detector R&D, especially take a leading role of R&D on FoCal Electro-magnetic section with silicon PAD sensor. The candidate also allows to carry out physics data analysis within the ALICE Collaboration in the areas of the group interests (jets, photons, heavy flavor physics). The appointment will be for two years and possible one year extension.

Applications including;

1) Curriculum Vitae without interruption,

2) Brief description of the research interests,

3) List of publications, conference talks,

4) Two recommendation letters; one letter should be provided by the latest employer or PhD thesis supervisor.

The application documents should be sent electronically to:

Prof. Tatsuya Chujo (E-mail: chujo.tatsuya.fw@u.tsukuba.ac.jp).

To ensure a full consideration, apply before May 15th, 2021.
