The Institute for Nuclear Physics (IKP) of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster (WWU) seeks to fill the following position as soon as possible:W1-level assistant professorship in experimental physics.

The assistant professorship is situated in the field of strong interactions in nuclear and particle physics with a focus on experimental activities in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC, CERN and FAIR, GSI Darmstadt (currently under construction).

The position is initially limited to a three-year term with the possibility of an extension for another three years upon a positive interim evaluation. Further employment of up to four more years is envisaged at the end of the six-year professorship.

The Institute is especially interested in candidates who can strengthen, complement and/or interconnect existing research areas of the Institute, specifically with significant contributions to ALICE and CBM experiments. The candidate will be expected to help establish significant activities in the field of silicon detectors and their usage in future experiments in heavy-ion collisions.

The professorship is deeply embedded in the NRW excellence network NRW-FAIR, to which the candidate is expected to contribute and benefit from expertise in physics and detector technologies related to the CBM experiment at FAIR.

The candidate should contribute to existing and/or future coordinated, third-party funded grants both within IKP and the Faculty of Physics in general.

This professorship should contribute to gender equality within physics, which could, e.g. be documented by an appropriate gender equality concept.
