The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Birmingham seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor with expertise and a demonstrated scientific track record in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion physics, to make a leading contribution to the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC. The successful applicant is also expected to play a leading role in the nuclear physics group’s ambitions beyond LHC Run 4, for example ALICE3.

The Birmingham ALICE group were a founding member of ALICE and have been involved in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion physics since the first heavy-ion beams at the CERN SPS in the 1980s. We have overall responsibility for the ALICE Central Trigger Processor (CTP) and are represented on the ALICE Management Board and many other ALICE Boards and working groups. We also play a leading role in the physics analysis.

Please contact Professor David Evans (D.Evans@bham.ac.uk) for more information or informal discussions.
