When lead nuclei (left) are collided, the neutron distribution affects the shape of the quark–gluon plasma matter produced (middle), leaving measurable imprints in the distributions of detected particles (right). (Image: CERN). A new publication in PRL by Giuliano Giacalone, Govert Nijs, and Wilke van der Schee talks about the determination of the Neutron Skin of 208Pb from Ultrarelativistic Nuclear Collisions based on data from ALICE and other LHC experiments. This is highlighted in the recent CERN news: Thick-skinned: Using heavy-ion collisions at the LHC, scientists determine the thickness of neutron “skin” in lead-208 nuclei

DIVERSITY
- LGBTQ+ in STEM Day at CERN: Pride Flag Raising: LGBTQ+ in STEM Day is an annual celebration of LGBTQ+ people in STEM disciplines across the world every 18th of November. This year, the CERN Directorate approved a request to raise a LGBTQIA+ Pride flag at CERN's Esplanade on Friday 17 November in lieu of the official LGBTQ+ in STEM Day, Saturday 18 November.
On 17 November, CERN raised the LGBTQ+ flag designed by Valentino Vecchietti in 2021. This version, known as the Progress Pride flag, overlays the familiar rainbow with a purple circle representing the intersex community and coloured arrows to represent transgender people and LGBTQ+ people of colour. The arrows point to the right to indicate progress. (Image: Nikki/Wikimedia Commons).
- "Work well feel well: No, no… it’s OK… Developing an awareness of health indicators": While a healthy amount of stress can provide motivation and drive, when work commitments are high, stress can negatively impact our health. It's essential to put measures in place to protect our health from the harmful effects of chronic stress.
