NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Due to a major leak in the cooling of the LAr calorimeter of ATLAS the start of the re-commissioning with beam has to be postponed by approximately one week and is expected to start around the 8 April. The exact day depends on the progress of the repair of the leak. Nevertheless the closure of the machine will be done according to the original schedule in the upcoming week to allow the machine to start the major part of the machine checkout already before the repair of ATLAS is finished.
- Preparation for ALICE:
- The detector activities in the ALICE cavern will be finished by Friday this week. Last Saturday morning the operation with a 24h shift crew restarted at P2 with the collection of COSMIC data for alignment of the central barrel and is advancing quite well. Up to now more than 115h of good COSMICS data are recorded.
- Last Friday the magnet was ramped up to full field for 4h hours at each polarity to check the stability of the cooling circuit. During this campaign, FIT experts carried out gain measurements on FT0 and FV0. The same measurements were repeated on Monday with the low solenoid field.
- On Thursday morning the weekly software update was carried. During this also EPN infrastructure nodes were moved to new servers running with the new OS.
- New Run Manager (17-30 Mar 2025): Cristian Andrei

DIVERSITY
- Work Well Feel Well: Emotions: forces for transformation: Part eight of the Work Well Feel Well series looks at how to acknowledge and manage our emotions!
- 25 by ’25 Gender Diversity Progress:
The latest data shows remarkable progress toward the 25% gender diversity target, originally deemed unattainable by experts due to low staff turnover. We are now less than 0.5% away from the goal! A special thank you to Hiring Managers for their dedication to “conscious hiring” over the past years. With a diverse feeder pool of students and grads, we are optimistic that this will result in increased gender diversity among staff in the medium and long term. More info ....
- D&I Volunteer Networks:
- SNAC (Neurodiversity) Network:
The network, set to officially launch in Q1 2025, already has over 60 members. Recent feedback from a participant highlighted the value of connecting with others who share similar neurodivergent traits.
- Coordinator position open for The Network for persons with Disability:
The role involves acting as a contact point for disability-related questions, participating in Diversity & Inclusion Roundtable meetings, and monitoring projects aimed at improving working conditions for people with disabilities at CERN. Please contact Jean-Yves Le-Meur for more details.
- SNAC (Neurodiversity) Network:
- ALICE Diversity Office website can be accessed here. Your feedback is extremely important. You can send us an email that will be treated confidentially by using the email address: alice-diversity-office@cern.ch or send us an anonymous message by using this form.
