Missions

ALICE is one of the four main experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland. Its objective is to study the quark-gluon plasma formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The postdoctoral researcher will participate in the taking and analysis of the data from the Run 3 of the LHC, which is scheduled to finish in mid-2026. One of the main objectives will also be to significantly contribute to improving the reconstruction and calibration of ALICE's Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) detector.

Activities

Analysis of heavy flavor production in proton-proton and Pb-Pb collisions using the ALICE data from the Run 3 of the LHC.
Improvement of the reconstruction and calibration of the MFT detector data, particularly their matching with the data from the ALICE's muon spectrometer.
Participation in the data taking of the ALICE experiment.

Skills

Strong programming experience (C++ and Python).
Expertise in data analysis from particle-physics or heavy-ion experiments.
Knowledge of the approaches used for detector reconstruction and calibration.
Basic knowledge of machine learning would be an asset.
Ability to work in a team and in a large international collaboration.

Work Context

The successful candidate will join the ALICE team at IP2I Lyon. The team has extensive experience in data analysis and detector development.
The candidate will be required to travel to CERN several times a year, both to participate in the data taking and in the ALICE collaboration meetings. He or she will also be expected to present his/her work at international conferences and workshops.
