The Korean ALICE experiment group (KoALICE) invites applications for one postdoctoral research associate position to conduct research in experimental relativistic heavy-ion physics with the ALICE experiment at CERN. 

 

The KoALICE group consists of researchers from seven Korean universities: Chungbuk National University, Inha University, Jeonbuk National University, Pusan National University, Sejong University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Yonsei University. The group comprises 10 faculty members and more than 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.

 

KoALICE is actively involved in a broad range of physics analyses and detector-upgrade projects. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to one or more of the following research areas:

 

·       ITS3 upgrade and ALICE 3 upgrade

·       High-photon and jet physics using Run 3 data

·       Light-flavour physics using Run 3 data

·       Heavy-flavour physics using Run 3 data

 

Depending on the candidate’s research interests and the needs of the collaboration, the successful candidate will work primarily with a faculty member and research group from one of the participating KoALICE institutions. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The initial contract period is two years, with the possibility of extension for up to an additional two years, subject to performance and funding availability. The successful candidate will be stationed at CERN and will actively participate in on-site ALICE physics analyses, detector-upgrade activities, and collaboration meetings.

 

Applicants are expected to have:

·       A recent Ph.D. in nuclear physics, high-energy physics, or a related field, obtained within the past seven years at the time of employment      

·       Experience in experimental data analysis and/or detector-related hardware development  

·       Proficiency in written and spoken English, including the ability to communicate scientific results effectively

·       Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international research environment
