The Sub-department of Particle Physics at the University of Oxford is seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral research assistant to work on the contact-free in-situ temperature measurement system, employing cryogenic scintillators.

The project is on research into contact-free, in-situ measurement of temperature, using a temperature-dependent scintillation characteristic to improve the monitoring of temperature of a protein sample holder assembly for macromolecular crystallography on the I23 beamline at the Diamond Light Source. The person will carry out modifications to the designs of already demonstrated equipment, fabrication of a specialised version of this equipment, systems integration and implementation at the beamline of the synchrotron.

When based in Oxford, teaching duties of up to 3 hours per week during University term may be required.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in experimental particle physics, detector physics or a related field. The post is full-time, fixed-term for 6 months.
