Postdoc to work on STAR:

The Relativistic Nuclear Collisions (RNC) program of the Nuclear Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates for postdoctoral positions with the STAR experiment, working on ultra-relativistic heavy ion and/or nucleon spin physics.

RNC plays a leading role in the Heavy Flavor Tracker (HFT) upgrade project for the STAR inner tracking system which will enable precision measurements of heavy flavor hadrons to address key issues in the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma. RNC also plays a key role in the STAR program with polarized protons that aims to resolve the internal spin structure of the proton and study the role of spin in QCD.

The successful candidates will be expected to play significant roles in heavy ion or spin physics analysis, and publication of current STAR data. The position focused on heavy ion physics will contribute significantly to the HFT project in the areas of software development, detector commissioning, and calibration.

Qualifications:
·Recent Ph.D. degree in High-Energy Nuclear Physics, or a closely related field
·Ability to work productively within a diverse research environment
·Ability to produce and publish original research and effectively present research results in seminars and at scientific meetings

This is a 2-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based on performance, funding, and continued operational needs. A background check is required upon hire.

We will begin consideration of candidates on Feb. 1, 2014.
