Job description:
The PRISMA Cluster of Excellence at the Institute for Physics of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Germany) has several openings for Postdoctoral Research Associates (Physicists) (TV-L  EG 13) in the ATLAS and CALICE groups to be filled immediately.

The PRISMA Cluster of Excellence − Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter − is focussed on the key questions concerning the fundamental constituents of matter and their implications for the physics of the Universe. Within PRISMA, the Mainz ATLAS group shares major responsibility for the operation and upgrade of the Level1 trigger and is involved in the research and development for the High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD). Physics analysis activities include measurements of Higgs boson and top quark properties, as well as a broad range of searches for new physics. Furthermore, within the CALICE Collaboration, the group is strongly involved in the simulation, design and construction of a high-granularity precision hadron calorimeter for a future electron-positron collider.

The successful applicants are expected to play a leading role in one or more of these areas, some positions being mainly focussed on hardware activities, others mainly on data analysis.  Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. (or an equivalent degree) in physics and should have in-depth research experience in high energy experimental particle physics. A strong background in data analysis, detector hardware or detector simulation is desirable.

The Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz aims at increasing the percentage of women in academic positions and strongly encourages women scientists to apply.

The University is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes applications from persons with disabilities.

The appointment will be initially for a period of two years, with the possibility of an extension. Qualified candidates are requested to submit their application, including a curriculum vitae, a brief description of their research experience and interests, and a list of the most relevant publications to Prof. Volker Büscher and Prof. Lucia Masetti, Institut für Physik, 55099 Mainz, Germany (or via email to buescher@uni-mainz.de and masetti@uni-mainz.de) and to arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the same address.
Applications will be considered as they arrive and will be accepted until December 1, 2016.
