Job description:
Title: Preparations for the integration of Phase-2 CMS tracker sub-detectors

Position: post-doctoral position at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1
Duration: 2 years
Contract Starts: from December 1st, 2022
Application Deadline: August 21st, 2022

The Institut de Physique des 2 Infinis de Lyon (IP2I), a joint laboratory of the French IN2P3/CNRS and the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL), invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position to work on the CMS experiment. The employer will be the Labex LIO (“Lyon Institute of Origins), a nationally-funded ‘Laboratory of Excellence’, hosted by UCBL.
IP2I is a founding member of CMS and had a key role in the development, installation and commissioning of the electromagnetic calorimeter and tracking detectors. The group has also made important contributions in the area of top quark physics, and in the area of Higgs boson searches and measurements. In addition, the group has important responsibilities in the CMS upgrade effort (future outer tracker and improved muon RPC) in view of the High-Luminosity phase of operation of the LHC.

The IP2I is deeply involved in the future outer tracker endcap (TEDD) design, as well as in the construction and integration of the outer tracker Dees, which are the mechanical components supporting and cooling the silicon modules. The successful applicant is expected to make strong contributions to the team’s activities in preparations for the integration of the phase-2 tracker, within the TEDD collaboration.

We are inviting applications from outstanding candidates, with prior experience in instrumentation activities. The candidate should also have strong coding skills, and be able to contribute to data acquisition system for the Dee integration. Although the work will be carried out mostly at IP2I, working periods at CERN are foreseen if sanitary restrictions permit. Possibilities for physics analysis of CMS data, in an area of expertise of the CMS IP2I group, can be discussed.

Appointment is for two years. The net salary (including social benefits) will depend on experience. Applicants must have a PhD degree in experimental particle physics at the time of appointment. They should provide a statement of research interests and a CV including a list of publications. Reference letters should be received at the below e-mail address prior to the application deadline. The deadline for applications is August 21st 2022.
