The Department of Physics of the University of Florida’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 16, 2023. The area of interest is the experimental particle physics research conducted at the Large Hadron Collider with the CMS experiment.

UF has one of the largest US university groups in the CMS experiment, comprising several faculty members, students, postdocs, scientists, and engineers. The group currently leads projects and teams in the areas of physics analyses, detector and trigger upgrades, operations, computing, and software. Projects include measurements and searches involving the Higgs boson, a variety of new physics searches, muon detector, and trigger upgrades and operations, and a Tier-2 computing center. The new faculty member is expected to attract external research funding, enhance the group’s efforts, and develop innovative new projects. We seek scholars with significant evidence of a well-developed research trajectory, the ability to collaborate in small and large groups, and the ability to supervise and mentor students and postdoctoral researchers. Applicants may contact the search chair, Dr. Korytov (korytov@ufl.edu), with any questions.

The University of Florida is ranked fifth among the top US public universities. The Department of Physics comprises 50 faculty leading innovative research across the fields of physics, including elementary particle physics, astrophysics, biological physics, and condensed matter/materials physics. The department enjoys a multitude of synergies internally and with other university units and global initiatives. We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service. To learn more, applicants are encouraged to visit the department website https://www.phys.ufl.edu.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at jobs.ufl.edu (job 524028): https://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/job/524028/assistant-professor-in-experimental-high-energy-physics. A complete application includes (1) a cover letter summarizing the applicant's qualifications, interests, and suitability for the position, (2) a complete curriculum vitae, (3) research statement and goals, (4) a statement on teaching, (5) a statement of past and planned contributions to diversity and inclusivity in physics, and (6) the names and contact information of three or more individuals who will provide confidential letters of recommendation.

Complete applications will be reviewed beginning November 1, 2022, and the position will remain open until filled. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the committee and/or hiring authority.
