Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics.

The post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years.

The place of work will be at the Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford, OX1 3RH, or at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland.

This project will test standard model predictions and provide new probes for exotic physics in tau lepton pair-production at the LHC.

The successful candidate will perform a differential measurement of tau lepton pair-production and contribute to the online collection of ATLAS events containing jets originating from b-quarks.

This will involve adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques; collaborating in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters; representing the research group at external meetings and seminars, either with other members of the group or alone; managing their own academic research and administrative activities; and carrying out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.

Applicants should hold, or be close to the completion of, a doctorate (DPhil or PhD) in experimental particle physics or a related field, and ideally have a strong background in tau lepton physics and/or online triggers.

Previous experience with the ATLAS or CMS experiments will be an advantage.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, plan and execute research activities, and work in a team.

The post may be based in Oxford or CERN, with visits to the other site when necessary.  When based in Oxford, the post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
