NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Shift booking is open for the whole 2024 run!
- The booking includes 2 periods:
- 19 Feb - 24 Sep 2024: shifts open to any member of the collaboration, reservation via SAMS. It represents 86% of the available shifts.
- 25 Sep - 28 Oct 2024: Heavy Ion shifts, reservation via SAMS restricted to collaborators that have a valid "Expert" permission. If you have experience as central shifter and are willing to commit for this exciting data taking period, but you are not yet identified as Expert for your preferred shift role, do not hesitate to contact the Run Coordination !
- One of the pre-requisites for booking central shifts is to have an ACTIVE SLIMOS permission for the duration of your shifts. The status of all permissions can be checked in the SAMS profile. The SLIMOS permission has to be renewed every 3 years by following the corresponding e-learning course and passing the test, as described here.
- All informations related to shifts and operations are described in the ALICE Operation Website.
- We would like to thank all institutes that already committed to the ALICE operations!
- Several critical blocks are still available, in particular during the first two weeks of operations:
- SL blocks from February 23 to March 9
- DCS blocks from February 21 to February 26 and from February 29 to March 5
- ECS blocks from February 21 to February 28 and from March 2 to March 7
- QC blocks from February 19 to February 22 and from March 2 to March 7
- The booking includes 2 periods:
- YETS 2023-2024:
- LHC beam operations will resume on 11 March 2024
- Underground access stops 5 March 2024
- Ongoing: detector maintenance and commissioning of central systems
- A milestone week is being organised from 5 to 9 March, to review the status of detectors and central systems before the start of the 2024 run

- International Masterclasses 2024 : Moderators needed:
Masterclasses in particle physics will take place between 15 February and 27 March 2024 (plus extra Masterclasses on 9 February, to celebrate the UN Day of Girls and Women in Science).
Moderators are needed for the end-of-the-day video conference: 4-5 pm CET. Students from various countries connect on zoom, discuss their results, ask questions and take part in a quiz. The moderation is done in pairs, and newcomers are paired with an experienced person, so nobody has to jump into the deep end. Normally each moderator does about three sessions. A training is provided short before the event.
If you are interested, please contact the central organiser of International Masterclasses Uta Bilow (uta.bilow@tu-dresden.de) as well as Despina Hatzifotiadou, who will provide information about the ALICE measurements

DIVERSITY
- "WIT Impostor Syndrome Workshop": 9 February 2024: Ever felt like you weren't deserving of your achievements? Thought it was all just luck? You're not alone! Impostor Syndrome is that sneaky voice in your head making you doubt your incredible skills, talents, and accomplishments. It's the shadow that makes you question if you're a "fraud", even when the spotlight clearly shines on your successes. WIT (Women in Technology), CERN has organized a workshop where we will introduce impostor syndrome, including what it is and how it usually manifests. After an introductory talk, participants will split in small groups to do hands-on exercises.
