NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Shift booking is open for the whole 2024 run!
- The booking includes 2 periods:
- 19 Feb - 24 Sep 2024: shifts open to any member of the collaboration, reservation via SAMS. It represents 86% of the available shifts.
- 25 Sep - 28 Oct 2024: Heavy Ion shifts, reservation via SAMS restricted to collaborators that have a valid "Expert" permission. If you have experience as central shifter and are willing to commit for this exciting data taking period, but you are not yet identified as Expert for your preferred shift role, do not hesitate to contact the Run Coordination !
- One of the pre-requisites for booking central shifts is to have an ACTIVE SLIMOS permission for the duration of your shifts. The status of all permissions can be checked in the SAMS profile. The SLIMOS permission has to be renewed every 3 years by following the corresponding e-learning course and passing the test, as described here.
- All informations related to shifts and operations are described in the ALICE Operation Website.
- In case of questions don't hesitate to contact the systems SRCs and Run Coordination :
- Run Coordination : alice-rc
- Training coordinator for SL: Silvia Pisano
- DCS: Peter Chochula (Peter.Chochula@cern.ch) and Andre Augustinus
- ECS: Roberto Divia
- QC: Daniele De Gruttola
- We would like to thank all institutes that already committed to the ALICE operations!
- Several critical blocks are still available, in particular during the first two weeks of operations:
- SL blocks from 23 February to 11 March
- DCS blocks 23-26 February and from 29 February to 3 March
- ECS blocks: 21-28 February and 2-7 March
- QC blocks 19-22 February
- The booking includes 2 periods:
- YETS 2023-2024:
- This week we completed a Milestone Week, during which we verified and validated several new features in the central systems. It also allowed to identify some remaining issues that will be addressed in the coming weeks, and tested during the LHC commissioning. We would like to thank all the experts involved, both from central systems and detectors, for the very efficient and fruitful work!
- LHC beam operations will resume on 11 March 2024
- Underground access stops 5 March 2024
- Ongoing: detector maintenance and commissioning of central systems

- "WIT Impostor Syndrome Workshop": 9 February 2024: Ever felt like you weren't deserving of your achievements? Thought it was all just luck? You're not alone! Impostor Syndrome is that sneaky voice in your head making you doubt your incredible skills, talents, and accomplishments. It's the shadow that makes you question if you're a "fraud", even when the spotlight clearly shines on your successes. WIT (Women in Technology), CERN has organized a workshop where we will introduce impostor syndrome, including what it is and how it usually manifests. After an introductory talk, participants will split in small groups to do hands-on exercises.
