NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Shift booking opportunities:
- We are missing shifters for three CRITICAL DCS blocks from April 21 to May 8
During those blocks we expect to have stable beams for proton-proton physics production, it is therefore essential to cover all shifts in order to guarantee smooth operations
Shifts booking via SAMS.
- We are missing shifters for three CRITICAL DCS blocks from April 21 to May 8
- The new shift schedule, with the additional proton-proton shift blocks as well as the shifted heavy-ion period, is now open for booking to the whole collaboration
- Extension of the 2024 proton-proton run by 4 weeks:
The CERN directorate has recently approved an extension of the 2024 proton proton run by 4 weeks, with a corresponding shortening of the 2025 proton-proton run by 4 weeks as well. The overall beam allocation for 2024+2025 will remain the same for both proton-proton and heavy-ions collisions. As a consequence of the extension, the 2024 heavy-ion run will be shifted by 4 weeks. The number of heavy-ions days will remain unchanged with respect to the original schedule. - ALICE Run Manager (15-21 April 2024): Livia TERLIZZI
- LHC and P2 news:
- LHC intensity ramp-up:
The LHC is finalizing the intensity ramp-up. During the past week the number of bunches circulating in the ring has steadily increased, and the machine is currently filled with 1800 bunches per beam. The machine availability was also very good during the past seven days, with 56% of the time spent in stable beams. - P2 operations:
During the LHC ramp-up phase, ALICE has carried out an intense program of detector calibrations and special runs, which is now completed. In particular, we collected reference data for the characterisation of the TPC charge distortions, with interaction rates spanning from 10 kHz up to 2 MHz.
In addition to the calibration runs, we recorded physics data at a pile-up of ~0.05 with all detectors. The data taking operations are proceeding very smoothly, with an efficiency that is systematically exceeding 90%
