ALICE Run Manager (5 - 18 Aug): Jetnipit Kaewjai
Jetnipit is a Ph.D. Student from Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. He is working on characterizing MLR1 prototype chips for the ITS3 upgrade by testing them with electrons and protons at a beam test facility in Thailand. He has participated in two important test beam campaigns at SPS and DESY. He also participated in the on-surface commissioning of ITS2. Last year Jetnipit was the first collaborator that followed the RM package in 2023, covering several central shifts for all roles (QC, DCS, ECS and Shift Leader) and finally ensuring one Run Manager mandate in June 2023. Jetnipit is back for one more Run Manager mandate this year, profiting from the experience he gathered in 2023.
During his mandate, Jetnipit will supervise the continuation of the p-p physics production at 500 kHz. - LHC and P2 news:
- LHC:
During the past week, the LHC continued with proton-proton physics production, providing stable beams close to 70% of the time. Few interruptions occurred due to issues with the injection and QPS systems but were promptly solved and resulted in only a few hours of downtime. On Wednesday afternoon CERN suffered a site-wide electrical glitch that caused the trip of several magnets including the ALICE dipole, however without any damage to any of the equipment. Yesterday the LHC performed a calibration of the BSRT devices during a special 2-hour long fill, after which the physics production resumed and will continue over the next week.
An access might be scheduled during next week for the exchange of the SND emulsions, but is not yet confirmed. - P2 operations:
ALICE is taking physics data smoothly and efficiently. During the BSRT calibration fill we collected some global runs at very low interaction rate (below 1 kHz). Two accesses have been organised during the week, in the shadow of LHC interventions, during which we could fix one noisy channel in FT0 and power off one ZDC high-voltage crate that needs to be repaired. The water leak in the L3 cooling was also inspected during the accesses and confirmed to be still small.
The integrated luminosity for p-p physics runs has reached more than 26 pb-1, almost equally shared between the positive and negative magnet polarities.
