Postdoc Position in High Energy Physics - CMS Experiment

We are pleased to announce the opening of a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Experimental High Energy Physics (HEP) in the intersection of the top quark and BSM fields, under the auspices of the “AxiTop: Hunting for axion-like particles with top quarks at the highenergy frontier” project.

The position is located in São Paulo, Brazil.

The successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to the Run 3 data analysis activities of the SPRACE team within the CMS experiment. Additionally, the project is supported by a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the CMS group at the University of Ghent, Belgium, necessitating strong collaboration with that group. Candidates for this position are expected to possess a Doctorate in Experimental High Energy Physics. Prior experience in one of the LHC experiments is highly valued. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to conduct independent research in HEP and lead a physics analysis through the design, optimization, documentation, approval, and publication phases. In addition to leading the physics analysis, the candidate must fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in fulfilling our collaboration obligations
  • Engage in interactions with diverse HEP groups globally.
  • Travel to CERN whenever feasible to work on-site.
  • Provide support and guidance to interns and students within the project.
  • The applicants must have:
  • Strong motivation to participate in challenging projects and actively develop a research program on physics analysis.
  • Ability to work in a targeted, structured, and productive manner in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Appointment Period These appointments are initially for 2 (two) years, and could be extended depending on the results of midterm evaluation carried out by a committee from the funding agency. The target start date is September 1st, 2025. The monthly income is fixed by FAPESP and nowadays is R$ 12.000,00. In addition to the income, the candidate will receive:

  • Travel ticket to/from São Paulo.
  • Installation aid corresponding to one month of salary.
  • 15% of the yearly income to cover expenses with traveling, participation in conferences, equipment, etc.
