NEWS FROM POINT 2
- pen shift block: please contact RC (alice-rc@cern.ch)
- LHC and ALICE:
- Last Friday, production restarted after machine development was finished. The last set of the MD was cancelled due to some vacuum activity in a collimator (TCLD in 11R2) during tests with high bunch intensity.
- During the first production fill, the beam intensity was increased up to 1.7E11. After a few fills, a worsening of the vacuum in 6L2 was observed, related to an increase in the temperature. Afterwards, the bunch intensities had to be decreased to 1.4-1.5E11 to allow a cooldown of this RF module.
- On Friday morning, an access is scheduled for several required interventions. During this access, an X-ray scan of the 6L2 RF module and the collimator in 11R2 will also be conducted to determine the further operation strategy and whether a replacement is required.
- ALICE data taking is going smoothly. So far, 42.2/pb were recorded.
- During the week, an issue with the HMP cooling plant occurred. The intervention on the plant is scheduled for access on Friday morning.
- During the test, a sw update is also scheduled. The final SW update before the software freeze is planned for next week. Afterwards, only cherry picking of approved changes is possible.
- Current Run Manager (13-26 Oct): Cristian Andrei :
Cristian Andrei is a physicist from Bucharest NIPNE. He is a specialist in pion, kaon, and proton production in high-multiplicity pp events, studying the dependence of their production as a function of charged-particle multiplicity and event shape. He is an active member of the PWG-LF, has made significant contributions, and has been a member of several analysis and paper review committees (ARC, IRC). Cristian has substantial experience in data taking and ALICE operation at P2. Since 2016, he has taken up all central shifter positions repeatedly: ECS, DCS, QC, and SL. He has experience in operating ALICE during the previous heavy-ion run period and has taken several RM terms in the past. Since 2025, he is also been the ALICE Training Coordinator.
