NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Open shift block: please contact RC (alice-rc@cern.ch):
- ECS Expert: 11.11-16.11
- SL Expert: 29.11-4.12
- QC Expert: 5.12 -7.12
- ECS Expert: 7/8.12
- LHC and ALICE:
- During the last week, the target delivery luminosity at all four IPs for pp was reached one week ahead of the end of pp production of 2025
- The machine was continuing to run with asymmetric beam intensities (B1: 1.4E11 ppb, B2: 1.8E11 ppb). No issue was observed in the machine. The background contribution in ALICE is at a similar level to last week.
- ALICE data taking was quite smooth. So far, 49.0/pb were recorded (52.3/pb were delivered).
- During an access on Thursday morning, a few activities were carried out in the cavern, and some patches for O2 and QC were installed at P2.
- pp production will finish on 5 November, followed by three days of machine development. Afterwards, the HEAVY-ION period will begin, starting with 4 days of commissioning and TS2.
- During the last week, the target delivery luminosity at all four IPs for pp was reached one week ahead of the end of pp production of 2025
- Current Run Manager (27 Oct - 6 Nov): Nicolo Valle:
Nicolo Valle is a post-doc at Pavia. During his Ph.D., he specialized in analysing Z bosons decaying into 2 muons with the muon spectrometer. He measured the Z boson production yield and RAA in Pb-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV with the RUN 2 data. Since 2019, he has taken care of the development of the new ALICE inner tracking system (ITS), both on the hardware side, being in charge of the mechanical aging tests of the ITS upgrade, and on the software side, having developed part of the ITS synchronous QC and being an expert in the ITS calibration. Thanks to this expertise, he ensured the responsibility of the ITS System Run Coordinator role in 2022 and 2023.
Nicolo already covered one Run Manager block in 2023 and is returning for one more block this year.
