  • Update on the COVID19 Guidelines:  https://hse.cern/covid-19-information
Frequently Asked Questions: COVID FAQ page.
    • CERN rules for travel quarantine: Those returning from travel outside the European area or in zones or countries considered as high-risk by either of CERN’s Host States must quarantine on arrival in the local area. They may access CERN sites after seven days on presentation of a negative RT-PCR test conducted at least seven days after return. See here for details.

    • CERN quarantine rules for close contacts: If you are self-isolating because you have been identified as a close contact, you must follow the quarantine rules of the country in which you are resident, and you may return to the CERN sites after a well-defined initial period on production of a negative COVID-19 test. CERN’s quarantine period for people living under the same roof as someone who has tested positive is 17 days, going up to 24 days if a negative test cannot be provided at the end of the initial 17-day period. Details can be found in the absence management table here.

    • Teleworking framework at CERN has been extended until 16 April: The EDH Absence Request must be completed in advance, selecting Teleworking (occasional), and making the request for a two-week period.

    • Access to CERN for over 65s is still not permitted even for those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine (unless their presence has been formally requested by the Organization).

    • Vaccination in France: The French government has announced a comprehensive calendar for rolling out the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to the entire population of the country. The calendar specifies who will be eligible for which vaccine and when. Full details of the French vaccination campaign are available here (in French). Vaccination is open to everyone resident in France, according to the timetable, and regardless of whether they hold a French social security number (Carte Vitale). See the CHIS website for full details.

  • New this week:
  • ALICE secretariat opening next week: Monday 15 March from 8h30 to 12h30 and from 13h30 to 17h30.
Nathalie, Guylaine & Julia remain available by phone and e-mail.

  • CERN’s radiation areas: changes (from 15 March) to signage of with new pictograms to warn people about radiation and indicate when a dosimeter must be worn. The new colour code gives a better visual indication of the radiological risk level.

    NEWS FROM POINT 2

Surface commissioning, commissioning at P2 and lab. and remote commissioning are progressing well for all central and subsystems.
The main highlights of this week:

    • ITS:   Service installation and commissioning activities ongoing. Test of Inner Barrel Bottom after replacement completed. Installation will start next week.

    • MFT:   Service installation and commissioning activities ongoing. X-ray data taking with full FLPs was successful.

    • TPC :  X-ray + cosmic data taking and combined runs with TOF ongoing.  Laser 1 installed and aligned. Trip rate under irradiation comparable to the surface commissioning results. Digital current readout in CRU under development.

      OUTREACH NEWS

      • All CERN group guided tours on site are cancelled until the end of June 2021 at least. Public exhibitions (Microcosm and Universe of Particles), as well as the shop (apart from our Click and Collect offer for CERN Community), also remain closed for public until further notice.

      • Virtual visits: Open virtual visits to ALICE (for the general public) were launched last week. Guides willing to help, from CERN at Point 2 or from remote locations, please contact alice-outreach-virtual-visits@cern.ch.
        • Weekly activities open to everyone at CERN: from relaxing coffee meetings to High Intensity Training. CERN colleagues have put together a series of activities to help us stay connected in these challenging times. Find out what's coming up in the link here.

        DIVERSITY

        • ALICE celebrated International Women's Day on 8 March 2021: Photo Collage and Video Collage.

        • Thriving Talent will be hosting a FREE webinar on Friday, 19 March from 12:30 - 14:00 CET to help women Banish The Imposter Syndrome.

Around 75 percent of executive women report having experienced imposter syndrome at some point in their career. Imposter syndrome holds us back. It prevents us from speaking up, taking opportunities, and realising our true potential. Do you secretly worry that others will find out that you’re not as bright and capable as they think you are? Do you sometimes shy away from challenges because of nagging self-doubt? In the interactive online workshop, Confidence Coach Jenna Clarke will share with you what imposter syndrome is, how it shows up, and the impact it may be having on your life. You will leave equipped with the tools to know how to address imposter syndrome and take back control.

ALICE Diversity Office website can be accessed here.
