NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Article in CERN Bulletin on 9 February 2022: "LHC experiments are stepping up their data processing game": While data processing demand is rocketing for LHC’s Run 3, the four large experiments are increasing their use of GPUs to improve their computing infrastructure.
ALICE has pioneered the use of GPUs since 2010 and is the only experiment using them to such a large extent to date. Data from the newly upgraded ALICE detectors are analysed online on a high-performance computer farm using GPUs and CPUs.
- CERN is currently in Covid Level 4 - RED, and will be moving to Level 3 – Orange on Monday 14 February.
Please refer to the link for further details about Level 3.
- CERN’s quarantine and isolation rules: If you show symptoms, have tested positive, or are a close contact, you must declare your situation using TRAMED. Mask wearing is required in shared indoor spaces at CERN.
- Self-testing at CERN for those without symptoms. Self test available also at ALICE Point-2. You are encouraged to take a test at least once per week. You must have completed beforehand the eLearning: COVID-19 - Self-testing at CERN / Auto-tests au CERN and you must sign-up for each self-test using the PLAMED tool.
- COVID-19 vaccination at CERN: There are currently many slots available, with slots becoming free on a daily basis due to no-shows. If you are eligible to be vaccinated at CERN and have not yet received your dose, you can reserve a slot on PLAMED.
- Measures in France: here have been no significant developments in France since the last email, and current measures are summarised here.
- Measures in Switzerland:
- Switzerland has lifted the requirement for close-contacts to quarantine. Isolation for five days is still required for those testing positive.
- Currently-applicable measures in Switzerland are summarised in this infographic.
- Geneva has announced a gradual reduction of COVID-19 measures in schools from 11 February: link.
- You can check your eligibility for a booster dose in Switzerland using the form at the link here.
- Travel:
- France: Details of conditions for international travel to and from France are unchanged since last week, and are available on this page (last updated 4 February).
- Switzerland: Conditions for entry to Switzerland are unchanged since last week, and are summarised in this infographic.
