PAPERS IN THE COLLABORATION REVIEW
Papers currently open for comments can be inspected using the link: Paper in Collaboration Review (Open for Comments).
NEWS FROM POINT 2
- First stable beams of the lead run were declared on Tuesday around 20:00. Thanks to the excellent preparation by the operations crew at point 2 and elsewhere, we were able to immediately start recording collisions.
- ALICE exceeds for the first time the maximum interaction rate with 15 kHz hadronic interaction at start of fill 9206 with 451b. No issues identified with respect to previous steps.
- 0.04 nbarn-1 delivered
- Fill efficiency 91.5%, 91.58%, 96.29% in fills at 227b. Stable Beam duration between 1h to 5h. Last fill 456b 56% efficicency of 2 hours fills, not related to increase of IR.
- Extensive studies and mitigation strategy evaluation ongoing with respect to the ZDC, ITS, MFT background hot spot at phi=2.4
- Next step at 850b, 30 kHz hadronic IR expected .

JUNIOR'S CORNER
Message from Junior representatives (Carolina, Florian, Luca):
- Guidelines for ALICE Thesis Video: we like to propose a ~3 min video summarizing the key results of PhD thesis. Guidelines are in the Juniors link. As an example: Thesis video by Hannah Bossi is in the CDS link.
- LHC Early Career Mentoring Program: We are happy to announce the start of the fourth round of the LHC Early Career Mentoring Programme for junior and senior researchers at the LHC!
The programme aims at connecting experienced researchers from an LHC experiment with early career researchers who seek for advice about how to develop their professional skills and want to learn from the expertise of an experienced LHC researcher. For more information on the scope of the programme, please check out the homepage of the program.
If you are interested in the programme, either as mentor or as mentee, make sure to apply here. Applications are open until October 22nd, 2023.
After applying, mentors and mentees will be matched by the Early Career Mentorship Committee and they will work on meeting their own specific set of goals, as proposed by the mentee and agreed upon with the mentor. The mentorship will continue until the end of August 2024, after which point mentor-mentee pairs may continue to meet informally if they wish to do so.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email the organisers at LHC-Early-Career-Mentorship-Committee@cern.ch.
- LHC Job Matching Event, 24 October 2023: Looking for your next position in HEP? Apply to the LHC Job Matching Event (JMEv) Fall 2023, registration to the event is currently open!
The LHC job matching event offers the opportunity for job recruiters and seekers, who both currently work on LHC experiments, to meet in Zoom interview sessions. The event is organised by the LHC Early Career Scientist Fora (LHC ECSF). Please find all further information and the registration details here.
