NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Open Shift block:
In the upcoming week we have still an open QC block (13 – 18 May ). Please get in contact with RC also in case if single day booking can be done.
- LHC:
- This week, the intensity ramp-up started with the first Stable Beams at full energy on Monday afternoon, with a short with 4b. Afterwards machine went directly to the second step with 12b, which was running till Tuesday morning.
- Due to issues observed during Stable Beams (wrong bump in IP8, and high losses), some further alignment andloss maps need to be done.
- On Wednesday, the reconfiguration of the LHC cooling to full mode was performed, followed by the start of the scrubbing phase, which will last till Sunday morning. In between, a last 12b fill for validation of the change setting had been carried out on Thursday night.
- On Sunday, the continuation of the ramp is planned with further steps in the upcoming week.
- ALICE:
-
During the first fills, ALICE was taken for the ITS color run studies. Afterwards, ALICE was taking data at low IR, to check the system performance after the restart, which did not show any issue.
During the access in the shadow of the reconfiguration of the cooling plants, TRD and ITS profited to replace power supply modules. -
During the next intensity step (75b) ALICE plans to take special data for TPC distortion maps and a fill with B=0 alignment data for the muon spectrometer and the central barrel.
-
In the upcoming week, special runs at high IR are planned.
- Run Manager (28 Apr - 11 May): Magnus Thoegersen

JUNIOR'S CORNER
- Message from Junior representatives (Bianca, Florian, Rohaan):
- Following the LHC-wide mental health survey conducted in 2023, which was developed by the ALICE Junior representatives, the ALICE Diversity office and Sarah Speziali, we are happy to announce that the results of the survey are finally analyzed and publicly available as a combined CMS and ALICE public note:
Assessing the mental health state of LHC scientists (ALICE-PUBLIC-2025-001,CMS NOTE-2025/001)
The note contains answers from all four LHC experiments, and was not only limited to junior members of the collaborations. We thank everyone who participated and hope that the note will serve as a basis for future initiatives.
- ALICE Run 3 Analysis Resources: a collection of all resources and news that can be helpful for people engaged in the analysis of ALICE Run 3 data. This is especially beneficial for those new to the Run 3 data analysis.

DIVERSITY
- Work Well Feel Well: Emotions: forces for transformation: Part eight of the Work Well Feel Well series looks at how to acknowledge and manage our emotions!
- 25 by ’25 Gender Diversity Progress:
The latest data shows remarkable progress toward the 25% gender diversity target, originally deemed unattainable by experts due to low staff turnover. We are now less than 0.5% away from the goal! A special thank you to Hiring Managers for their dedication to “conscious hiring” over the past years. With a diverse feeder pool of students and grads, we are optimistic that this will result in increased gender diversity among staff in the medium and long term. More info ....
- D&I Volunteer Networks:
- SNAC (Neurodiversity) Network:
The network, set to officially launch in Q1 2025, already has over 60 members. Recent feedback from a participant highlighted the value of connecting with others who share similar neurodivergent traits.
- Coordinator position open for The Network for persons with Disability:
The role involves acting as a contact point for disability-related questions, participating in Diversity & Inclusion Roundtable meetings, and monitoring projects aimed at improving working conditions for people with disabilities at CERN. Please contact Jean-Yves Le-Meur for more details.
