The South African ALICE groups at iThemba LABS, the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand are a small and active community that is contributing to the Muon Arm and the Transition Radiation Detector of ALICE and that is working on measurements of muons and photons. The involvement in ALICE is part of the South Africa-CERN Programme (SA-CERN), which also includes a participation in the ATLAS Experiment, the ISOLDE Programme and a strong group of theorists working on topics related to the experimental programme.

Nikhef is the national institute for subatomic physics in The Netherlands. Nikhef itself is a collaboration between 5 major Dutch universities and the Dutch Science Funding Agency (NWO). Utrecht University is member of the Nikhef collaboration, and the Institute for Subatomic Physics as part of the Physics Department of the Science Faculty of Utrecht University performs experimental research in high-energy physics in close collaboration with the Nikhef institute. The main focus of the institute is on the ALICE experiment at the LHC.

We are looking for highly qualified candidates for two postdoctoral positions. One position is focused on development of ultra-fast Silicon Detectors (UFSD) for Nuclear and Particle Physics (including the EIC), and the other is supporting our broad hadronic physics program, with an emphasis on upcoming and future Jefferson Laboratory experiments.

A call is now live for applications for the Rutherford International Fellowship Programme (RIFP) which provides 2-year post-doctoral fellowships which can be undertaken at any STFC National Laboratories department in the UK.
 
Applicants need to have a PhD or 4-years equivalent research experience, and can’t have lived in the UK for more than 1 year in the past 3 years (there is a slightly different criterion for those returning from a career break).
