The South African ALICE groups at iThemba LABS, the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand are a small and active community that is contributing to the Muon Arm and the Transition Radiation Detector of ALICE and that is working on measurements of muons and photons. The involvement in ALICE is part of the South Africa-CERN Programme (SA-CERN), which also includes a participation in the ATLAS Experiment, the ISOLDE Programme and a strong group of theorists working on topics related to the experimental programme.
