NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Covid-19: CERN is currently in Level 3 – Orange.
Please refer to the link for further details about Level 3. For the complete picture, please consult the link here.

    • With incidence rates decreasing and both Host States relaxing their COVID-19 restrictions, CERN is also adapting its measures accordingly. As announced last week, the situation is under review to determine whether conditions allow for further easing of the measures in place, notably with a transition to COVID Level 2 – Yellow. Should the conclusions of this review be positive, ten days’ notice will be given to allow each and every one of us time to adapt to returning to work on site.
    • Despite recent waiving of protection measures announced by the Swiss Federal Council, distancing, mask wearing and hand sanitizing remain mandatory on all CERN sites. These measures are in line with regulations still applicable in France and have proven to be highly effective in limiting transmission on site. With the virus still circulating at a significant level, it is thus important to continue to respect them in shared indoor spaces.
  • Self-testing at CERN for those without symptoms. Self test available also at ALICE Point-2. You are encouraged to take a test at least once per week. You must have completed beforehand the eLearning: COVID-19 - Self-testing at CERN / Auto-tests au CERN and you must sign-up for each self-test using the PLAMED tool.

  • COVID-19 vaccination at CERN: There are currently many slots available, with slots becoming free on a daily basis due to no-shows. If you are eligible to be vaccinated at CERN and have not yet received your dose, you can reserve a slot on PLAMED. The vaccination centre in Building 693 will close on 25 February. COVID-19 vaccinations will be provided at a lower scale in the CERN infirmary (Building 57) from the beginning of March.

  • Measures in France:  Current measures are summarised here: (last updated 16 February). As of 28 February, masks will no longer be compulsory in closed spaces requiring a pass vaccinal. Full information about timing for boosters and implications for the validity of the pass vaccinal are available in the link here.

  • Measures in Switzerland: The Swiss Federal Council has announced that since 17 February, all measures in place in Switzerland are dropped, with the exception of mask-wearing on public transport and in healthcare institutions until the end of March to protect those at high risk, after which the situation status will return to normal. Masks and COVID certificates are therefore no longer required to enter shops, restaurants, cultural venues and other public settings and events, but the requirement to isolate in the event of a positive test will remain. For detailed information, please consult the Swiss Federal Council press release.

  • Travel:
    • France: Details of conditions for international travel to and from France are unchanged since last week, and are available on this page and here (last updated 14 February). There are now no countries on the ‘red list’. Fully vaccinated people (with an EU-recognised vaccine) are no longer required to take a COVID-19 test or to isolate on arrival in France, whatever country they are travelling from. Since 1 February, in order for their vaccination schedule to continue to be recognised as complete, persons aged 18 years or older wishing to enter French territory must have received a booster dose of a mRNA vaccine no later than nine months after receiving the last mandatory dose. People arriving in France must still complete a declaration form.

    • Switzerland: Conditions for entry to Switzerland no longer require to provide proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test or to complete an entry form. Although COVID certificates only valid in Switzerland will no longer be issued as of 17 February, Swiss authorities will continue to issue COVID certificates recognised by the EU to facilitate travels abroad.
