NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS
- The first ALICE papers with the Option-C author list and acknowledgments are now published online (others in pipeline):This is part of the process to get our publications back to normal mode.
- Request for participation: mental health check-in: We are happy to announce the launching of a mental health check-in to follow up on the Healthy Minds for Master Minds workshops held throughout the past two years. These questions were crafted in collaboration with Sarah Speziali (life coach and therapist) in order to gauge the wellbeing of scientists at the LHC and identify future areas of growth. This survey is open to all members of the collaboration!
Please take a moment to fill out this anonymous survey by Monday 8 May 12:00 CEST. We apologise for the short notice, but the plan is to summarize the results of this survey at the LHCP conference in May.
Thank you all for continuing your efforts to make mental health and wellbeing a priority in our community!
- The India-ALICE collaboration meeting at IIT Bombay took place during 29 April to 2 May 2023. It was attended by about 50 ALICE participants from India and abroad.

NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Heavy-ion shifts are now open: From 18 September to 30 October we will enter a critical data taking phase during which we will collect data for the proton-proton reference run and Heavy Ion. BOOKING is OPEN in SAMS for all slots up to 30th October, including the pp reference run and Heavy Ion. If you are interested in taking shifts during the exciting phase of the life of the collaboration and you have questions, do not hesitate to contact:
- DCS: Peter Chochula and André Augustinus
- ECS: Roberto Divia
- QC-PDP: Daniele De Gruttola and Ole Schmidt
- SL: Silvia Pisano
- RC: ALICE Run Coordination
- ALICE central operations:
- Ramp-up at 50 kHz and 100 kHz done.
- ALICE running efficicency 80-85%.
- New Run Manager: Livia Terlizzi.
Livia is junior member of the collaboration from the Torino group. She is an expert of Resistive Plate Chambers and of the MID system. She worked on the MID upgrade for RUN3 with new bakelite electrodes and worked on the performances of MID during the first year of data taking. She is one of the ALICE representative of the eco-gas collaboration of CERN. This year she is the MUON SRC, she is in charge of both MID and MCH systems. In 2022, she took a large number of central shifts, in addition to MID and ZDC On-calls. She also ensured more than two RM mandates and was regularly available to support the operation when last minute reinforcements were needed during critical phase (RM replacement, missing shifters). She is so committed to the operations at P2 that she accepted a RM mandate for critical operations, 4 days after defending her PhD on "An upgraded muon identification system for ALICE at the LHC: from detector construction to testing and re-commissioning".
During her mandate, Livia will coordinate the finalisation of the machine ramp-up reaching 500 kHz interaction for the first time of the year. We are running today at 100 kHz. As soon as this is reached, she will coordinate the ALICE intensity scan taking data from 10kHz to 4 MHz in preparation for Pb-Pb data taking.
- LHC Status:
- LHC availability over the past 14 days ~ 70%
- Machine ramp-up with 400b and 900b done
- Issues with losses in collisions with Beam 1, collimator setting reviewed and under validation to resume ramp-up to 1200b
