NEWS FROM POINT 2
- SHIFT BOOKING is OPEN in SAMS for all slots up to 30 October (including pp reference run and Heavy Ion period): From 18 September to 30 October we will enter a critical data taking phase during which we will collect data for the proton-proton reference run and Heavy Ion. If you are interested in taking shifts during the exciting phase of the life of the collaboration and you have questions, do not hesitate to contact:
- DCS: Peter Chochula and André Augustinus
- ECS: Roberto Divia
- QC-PDP: Daniele De Gruttola and Ole Schmidt
- SL: Silvia Pisano
- RC: ALICE Run Coordination
- ALICE Shifts:
- Missing shifter for pp data taking (recently released)
ECS block starting the 23th August
- Missing expert shifter for HI data taking
1 SL partial block of 3 mornings
2 DCS shifters : 1 full block and 1 partial block of 3 mornings
9 ECS shifters : 8 full blocks and 1 partial block of 3 mornings
5 QC shifters : 4 full blocks and 1 partial block of 2 mornings
- Missing shifter for pp data taking (recently released)
- ALICE central operations:
- Data taking at 500 kHz, 13.6 pb-1 delivered so far to ALICE in 2023
- Software Upgrade next week
- ALICE Run Manager (10 - 23 July 2023): Ernesto Calvo Villar
Ernesto is a Ph.D. student from Lima working on the measurement of diffractive cross sections using the AD system at the ALICE experiment. He performed service tasks on the design and production of the AD detector by studying the performances of the detector using Monte Carlo simulations. In Run 2, he was involved in the operation at Point 2 by taking ECS and AD shifts. Ernesto is our second Run Manager coming from the RM package. Without previous experience in RUN 3 shifts, he fulfilled all the training this year and had taken all the central shift positions (QC, DCS, and ECS Shift Leader) over the past four months. Thanks to his strong commitment to operation this year, he is fully qualified to take over the Run Manager role. - During his mandate, Ernesto will ensure production for physics at 500 kHz with the full machine (2400b), as well as finalisation of the IR scan at 1MHz and 1.5 MHz.
- LHC Status: Fill of 20h during the week. Time in Stable Beam ~ 35% since the beginning of the year.
Major electrical perturbation today morning. We hope to have physics back tomorrow.
