ONGOING AND UPCOMING EVENTS
The Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics was awarded to the four Large LHC experiments for their “detailed measurements of Higgs boson properties confirming the symmetry-breaking mechanism of mass generation, the discovery of new strongly interacting particles, the study of rare processes and matter-antimatter asymmetry, and the exploration of nature at the shortest distances and most extreme conditions at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider”.
Congratulations to everyone involved!

NEWS FROM POINT 2
- During the past week, commissioning of the LHC continued, progressing through several steps such as orbits measurement, collimator alignment, ramp configuration, and validation of the proton, ion, and VdM cycles and many more.
Last Monday, the first collisions were set up at all interaction points. This was done with the ALICE magnet remaining off, following an issue with the dipole power converter involving two faulty resistors, which could be fixed during an access on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, a severe water leak appeared in UA27, causing damages to several racks. Repairs lasted until Thursday evening, after which beam commissioning resumed over the Easter weekend.
Due to this issue, the first stable beams at injection energy had to be canceled before Easter. Only a short session will be planned after easter.
The first stable beams at full energy are expected at the beginning of May, coinciding with the start of the intensity ramp-up.
- Preparation in ALICE:
- During beam commissioning ALICE was running mainly replay data for performance studies. During no beam period cosmics runs were taken to allow readout studies. ALICE is prepared for data taking with stable beams.

- Run Manager (14 - 27 Apr): Krystian Roslon
Krystian is a young physicist from WUT in Poland. He joined ALICE in 2016, where he specialized in data analysis using femtoscopy techniques. In 2022, Krystian became part of the FIT team and made significant contributions to the development of the FIT Detector Control System. As a result, in 2024, he was appointed FIT DCS Technical Coordinator.
Since 2022, he has also held the position of FIT System Run Coordinator, gaining valuable experience in ALICE operations and data acquisition. He is also experienced in Run Management, as this is his second mandate.
During his current mandate, Krystian will oversee the first commissioning period with initial collisions, as well as the finalization of ALICE commissioning through the running of SYNTHETIC and REPLAY data. He will also face the challenge of organizing data taking for the first proton-proton collisions of the year, at 900 GeV, during the first week of his mandate.

JUNIOR'S CORNER
- Message from Junior representatives (Bianca, Florian, Rohaan):
- Following the LHC-wide mental health survey conducted in 2023, which was developed by the ALICE Junior representatives, the ALICE Diversity office and Sarah Speziali, we are happy to announce that the results of the survey are finally analyzed and publicly available as a combined CMS and ALICE public note:
Assessing the mental health state of LHC scientists (ALICE-PUBLIC-2025-001,CMS NOTE-2025/001)
The note contains answers from all four LHC experiments, and was not only limited to junior members of the collaborations. We thank everyone who participated and hope that the note will serve as a basis for future initiatives.
- ALICE Run 3 Analysis Resources: a collection of all resources and news that can be helpful for people engaged in the analysis of ALICE Run 3 data. This is especially beneficial for those new to the Run 3 data analysis.

DIVERSITY
- Work Well Feel Well: Emotions: forces for transformation: Part eight of the Work Well Feel Well series looks at how to acknowledge and manage our emotions!
- 25 by ’25 Gender Diversity Progress:
The latest data shows remarkable progress toward the 25% gender diversity target, originally deemed unattainable by experts due to low staff turnover. We are now less than 0.5% away from the goal! A special thank you to Hiring Managers for their dedication to “conscious hiring” over the past years. With a diverse feeder pool of students and grads, we are optimistic that this will result in increased gender diversity among staff in the medium and long term. More info ....

- SNAC (Neurodiversity) Network:
The network, set to officially launch in Q1 2025, already has over 60 members. Recent feedback from a participant highlighted the value of connecting with others who share similar neurodivergent traits.
- Coordinator position open for The Network for persons with Disability:
The role involves acting as a contact point for disability-related questions, participating in Diversity & Inclusion Roundtable meetings, and monitoring projects aimed at improving working conditions for people with disabilities at CERN. Please contact Jean-Yves Le-Meur for more details.
