ONGOING AND UPCOMING EVENTS
The European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) is the cornerstone of Europe’s decision-making process for the long-term future of the field. Mandated by the CERN Council, it is formed through a broad consultation of the particle physics community and the study of selected projects. The focus of the ESPP 2026 Update is to identify the next flagship project at CERN to succeed the Large Hadron Collider and its high-luminosity upgrade.

NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Open shift block:
- In the upcoming week there is one ECS block (24 – 29 June ), which still need to be covered.
In case of questions please contact RC (alice-rc@cern.ch)
- In the upcoming week there is one ECS block (24 – 29 June ), which still need to be covered.
- LHC and ALICE:
- During the last week, the machine continued production with the full machine. During the weekend, a longer break was induced by a loss of conditions in cryogenics in Pt6.
The machine also carried out measurements for ion optics and ion cycle, which will be used for the upcoming Oxygen Special run.
On Thursday morning, machine development started.
Starting on Monday morning, there will be five days of technical stop.
- ALICE has been taking physics data during the last week.
The data-taking efficiency was very good, resulting in 10.2/pb recorded luminosity ( 11.2/pb delivery luminosity).
During the last week, two short tests with high IR were carried out for further detector stability studies.
The investigation into the enhanced background contribution is ongoing. The issue seems to the related to the vacuum level in an upstream area on the C-Side. Possible mitigations are discussed with the machine experts.
During the machine development testing with OO and pO, synthetic data is planned while ALICE will remain super safe.
During the Technical Stop, several interventions are planned in the cavern and the usual maintenance work.

DIVERSITY
- Work Well Feel Well: Emotions: forces for transformation: Part eight of the Work Well Feel Well series looks at how to acknowledge and manage our emotions!
- 25 by ’25 Gender Diversity Progress:
The latest data shows remarkable progress toward the 25% gender diversity target, originally deemed unattainable by experts due to low staff turnover. We are now less than 0.5% away from the goal! A special thank you to Hiring Managers for their dedication to “conscious hiring” over the past years. With a diverse feeder pool of students and grads, we are optimistic that this will result in increased gender diversity among staff in the medium and long term. More info ....
- D&I Volunteer Networks:
- SNAC (Neurodiversity) Network:
The network, set to officially launch in Q1 2025, already has over 60 members. Recent feedback from a participant highlighted the value of connecting with others who share similar neurodivergent traits.
- Coordinator position open for The Network for persons with Disability:
The role involves acting as a contact point for disability-related questions, participating in Diversity & Inclusion Roundtable meetings, and monitoring projects aimed at improving working conditions for people with disabilities at CERN. Please contact Jean-Yves Le-Meur for more details.
